Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the GAP Clinic exist?
The GAP Clinic enables the Grandview Kids Medical Services team and the Lakeridge Health surgical and anesthesia teams to provide care outside of a hospital. For the first time in Canada, children and youth can access anesthesia-assisted procedures at a Children’s Treatment Centre.
This innovative clinic helps keep our clients’ medical care in one place. Before, Grandview Kids clients were scheduled at Lakeridge Health Oshawa to receive anesthesia-assisted Botox injections in an operating room. Many Grandview Kids clients experience anxiety and distress when visiting hospitals. Grandview Kids is a safe, supportive space for children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs. Accessing anesthesia-assisted care here makes the experience more comfortable for our clients and their families.
What types of procedures will be performed in the GAP Clinic?
The only procedure that is currently offered through the GAP Clinic is Botox injections for Grandview Kids Hypertonia Clinic clients.
More treatments may become available through the GAP Clinic in the future. Please speak with your child’s Grandview Kids physician to find out whether the GAP Clinic may be right for your child.
