As a general program mandate, School-Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) aim to deliver Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, as well as Speech-Language Pathology support (e.g., speech production, fluency, voice difficulties) to school-aged children and youth in publicly funded schools. Specifically, the SBRS program works with students, staff, and families in order to ensure that the students are able to successfully and safely attend school, access the curriculum, and participate in school activities.
Caregivers/parents of children and youth who have identified language needs can reach out to their respective school boards to discuss service options available within their respective school boards.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to receive School-Based Rehabilitation Services, students must meet the following Eligibility criteria:
- General Criteria:
- Enrollment in a publicly funded school.*
*If your child is attending a private school, you may contact Home and Community Care Support Services (1-800-263-3877) for additional services and support opportunities*
- The school and legal guardian must both consent to the request for service and must assist with the implementation of services, where necessary.
- Diagnostic Criteria: The student must require the service in order to ensure full participation in all activities of the school, as well as full access to the implemented curriculum. There must also be a reasonable expectation that the requested therapy will result in progress toward an identified goal.
