Important updates
For children (5 to 11 years)
Children must be at least 5 years old to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is approved for children ages 5 to 11 years. For example, a child who turns 5 years on February 1 must wait until February 1 to receive their first dose of the vaccine.
It is recommended that children 5 to 11 years old receive their second dose at least eight weeks after the first dose. According to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), evidence suggests that a longer interval:
- Provides a stronger immune response
- May decrease the risk of myocarditis or pericarditis after the second dose
However, with parental consent, children are eligible for their second dose a minimum of 21 days after their first dose.
For youth (12 to 17 years)
The Grandview Kids Vaccine Clinic is now offering first and second doses to youth ages 12 to 17 years who may need more time or assistance through peer support or a sensory-safe environment.
For Grandview Staff
The vaccine clinic is open to Grandview staff and their immediate family members.
Grandview Kids is proud to offer a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for all children and youth ages 5 to 17 years in the Durham Region; especially those who may need a little more help with their vaccine. Your child or youth does not need to be a client of Grandview Kids to access this service.
This paediatric-focused clinic will provide on-site supports and resources for you and your child or youth. This includes an accessible building with free parking, a sensory-safe room to receive the vaccine, small group sizes for waiting and recovery areas, Peer Navigators to provide social support and child-focused activities.
We are now accepting registration for the first and second doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine through Eventbrite.

How to prepare for your visit
1. Complete the consent form.
If you have a printer at home, please complete this Parent Consent Form using Adobe Reader, print and bring it with you to your child’s appointment. One form is required per child.
If you do not have a printer at home, you will be asked to complete and sign this form at the beginning of your appointment.
2. Prepare for your appointment.
The Durham Region Health Department and Grandview Kids hosted a Town Hall to help parents prepare for their child receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. You can view a video recording of the Town Hall by clicking here, which also has resources including:
- Receiving your vaccine social story.
- Receiving your vaccine checklist.
- The CARD System – Comfort, Ask, Relax, Distract.
3. Get your questions answered.
If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, please contact the Sick Kids COVID-19 Vaccine Consult Service to book an appointment. This free service is designed to help parents and caregivers get their questions answered. You may also find it helpful to review this Vaccine Information Sheet from the Ontario Ministry of Health.
On the day of your appointment
1. Complete the COVID-19 screening.
Within two hours of the start of your appointment, please complete the Grandview Kids Online COVID-19 Screening. One screening is required per family.
2. Bring your child’s health card.
If your child or youth has an Ontario Health Card, please bring it with you to the appointment. Remember, you do not need a health card to receive the vaccine, but some form of valid ID is required. Public Health has advised that a health card is preferred for registration purposes, but even if it isn’t valid, you can still receive your vaccine.
3. Pack comfort items.
The Grandview Kids team is ready to support you and your child through the vaccine process. Volunteers, nurses and medical staff will be on-hand to help you and your child throughout the process. To help, you may choose to pack your child’s favourite stuffed animal or toy.
