Please review the FAQs listed below about our updates to services from our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) and Occupational Therapists (OT) in Grandview Kids’ Purchased Service offerings.
What is the difference between direct work and program supervision by an SLP/OT?
An SLP or an OT who is conducting direct work and program supervision for a child could complete the following:
- Direct supervision of your child in session
- Direct treatment sessions with your child
- Write client goals
- Provide training and guidance to clinicians on goals
- Monitor, review & update client goals and programs
- Discuss client goals and progress with caregivers
Can my child’s Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Core Clinical Services budget be used towards the SLP/OT supervision billed on my weekly invoice?
Yes. The SLP and/or OT’s professional designation and license number will be included on your invoice for submission to AccessOAP.
Will the weekly invoice have the information I need to submit for extended health benefits coverage for SLP/OT?
Yes. The SLP and/or OT’s professional designation, license number and service details will be included in your invoice.
Based on these updates, will I be billed differently for the Registered Behaviour Analyst’s (RBA) supervision of my child’s program?
No. The hourly rate for your child’s ABA services includes the supervision and oversight of the Behaviour Analyst. This includes regular direct supervision of your child in session, goal planning and updates, therapy documentation and training and clinical support of the direct care clinicians seeing your child (Autism Therapy Assistants). Billing for Behaviour Analyst time spent on your child beyond the treatment team remains unchanged (e.g., external meeting attendance, letters of recommendation, additional care planning and consultation with external partners in care).
Do I have to agree to the recommended SLP/OT consultation and direct supervision time to continue in ABA services at Grandview Kids?
No. The recommendation is based on the time the SLP/OT is currently using to maintain the goals within your child’s Service Plan that are within their scope of practice.
What happens if I do not agree to the recommended SLP/OT program supervision hours?
If a family does not agree to the recommended SLP/OT program supervision time, a discussion about adjustment of program goals will be initiated. The Behaviour Analyst can continue to oversee these goals within their scope of practice.
Note: An adjustment to the number of goals supervised by the SLP/OT could be made to change the recommended monthly time.
