Grandview Children’s Centre is governed by an 11-member volunteer Board of Directors who live within the Durham Region and are in good standing with the Grandview Children’s Centre Corporation.
The Board of Directors holds an Annual General Meeting each June for the purpose of:
- reporting to the community on progress in the previous year;
- nominating and electing new directors to the Board; and
- releasing the Grandview Kids Annual Report.
The Board of Directors oversees four sub-Committees:
Priorities and Performance Committee
The Priorities and Performance Committee focuses on monitoring organizational performance based on established indicators and accreditation standards.
Finance and Facilities Committee
The Finance and Facilities Committee provides oversight on the organization’s financial performance and reporting, internal control, the audit process and risk management.
Governance Excellence Committee
The Governance Excellence Committee plans and leads activities to increase the effectiveness of the governance process at Grandview Kids.

Leo is retired, after a meaningful career as a secondary school educational leader, as well as the Executive Director for the Abilities Centre. He says, “In my former roles, I had many opportunities to see the tremendous work done by Grandview Kids staff in changing lives. I was fortunate enough to work closely with Grandview Kids in a formal partnership to offer complimentary services for families and children at the Abilities Centre.” Leo looks forward to supporting the future of Grandview Kids, focusing on a successful CEO transition and continual work underway for its capital building project. Team Grandview inspires him the most, “I am so impressed with Grandview’s frontline staff and how they deal so magnificently and sensitively with families and children. I am inspired each day by their work and have found the education sessions for the board that are given by frontline workers to be highly inspirational.”

Erin is a partner with Johnston Montgomery Watson, practicing law in the Durham Region since her call to the Bar in 2012. Erin provides advice in the areas of Estate Planning and Estate Administration, Corporate and Commercial Transactions, and Real Estate. When asked why she joined the Board, Erin said, “Children deserve every opportunity to thrive. I have the privilege to help people in my career when they need it most, and I am grateful to provide my substantive knowledge base to [the] Grandview team and our families. I look forward to finding ways to support clients and caregivers directly, fostering the community Grandview has created.” Erin is inspired by acts of kindness, big or small, noting it’s important to find ways to lift each other up. Erin lives in Whitby with her husband and two, beautiful children.

Jonathan is the Director, Business Affairs and Financial Management & Emergency Social Services at the Regional Municipality of Durham. He is a motivated, results-driven transformational leader with over 20 years of progressive experience in program administration and delivery in municipal government, accompanied by over 10 years of not-for-profit executive and Board governance experience. In addition to possessing several years of progressive experience in business administration and transformational leadership, Jonathan has a master’s degree in Public Administration from Western University with a focus on local government, along with a CPA designation. When asked what inspired him to join the Board, he said, “As a father of two young children and a community coaching volunteer, I understand the importance of ‘every child and youth living life at their full potential.’ Seeing the expansion underway with the new facility is exciting for our communities. I am thrilled to serve on the Board to make it happen.”

Catherine is a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) with Durham District School Board, where she fell in love with inclusive education early on in her career. Through various roles, including teaching adaptive swimming lessons, lifeguarding and her eventual teaching roles, inclusivity has been a lifelong focus. She believes that the grit and resiliency that children display daily (in her work) is inspiring, “I think one of the most critical things you can do as a human being is to build relationships. If you are fortunate enough to build a trusting relationship with a child, then you have won the lottery.” Catherine looks forward to ensuring the organizational focus remains on its exemplary service delivery, noting she’s fortunate to see its “excellence in action” as part of her job. “My goal for this year would be to ensure we are ambassadors for Grandview, and planning for the future in a way that is fiscally responsible and client-centred.” Catherine enjoys spending time with her two children, husband and dogs at their cottage.

Leisa is the Manager of Volunteer & Community Relations, Oshawa Senior Community Centres 55+. She is a seasoned communications strategist. As a parent of a daughter with exceptional needs, Leisa brings a deep understanding of the challenges families face when accessing services and support. She believes that all children are deserving of the brightest future possible, adding, “I am excited to contribute my skills and expertise to Grandview Kids during such an extraordinary period of development and growth.” In her free time, Leisa enjoys cheering on her daughter and bonus kids in their many adventures, alongside her husband and labradoodle.

Robyn Jacobson is a Chartered Mediator and works as a Conflict Management Consultant, focusing on the education sector. Her background is Law, University teaching and management, and she holds the degrees of B.Com, LLB, LLM, PhD. Robyn has served on several not-for-profit boards, the most recent being Trent University, where she was honoured for her service by being named Governor Emeritus. Robyn, and her husband Bradley, were first introduced to Grandview over 10 years ago when they decided that the proceeds from the McHappy Day fundraising from their McDonald’s in Ajax would go to Grandview Kids; they love Grandview and are in awe of the amazing work done for so many children in Durham. Robyn is probably best known at Grandview as the mother/caregiver of Tulip, the Mini Therapy Horse, and now looks forward to contributing in a different way as a director.
Bernadette Santiago Tan, Director

Bernadette Santiago is a seasoned investigator and adjudicator with extensive experience in professional regulation, public accountability, and governance. She currently serves on adjudicative and oversight bodies including the Ontario College of Teachers Registration Appeals Committee, the Town of Ajax Committee of Adjustment, and the Ombudsman Association’s Validation Committee (UK). In 2025, she was appointed Co-Lead of the Community of Practice: Conduct with the Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation (CNAR), a national forum focused on best practices in complaints, investigations, and professional discipline.
Bernadette also brings leadership experience as Chair of the Durham Catholic Children’s Foundation, where she champions student support, fundraising, and good governance. She is bilingual in English and French and is known for her equity-focused, collaborative approach to decision-making.
Bernadette holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from York University – Glendon College, along with specialized training in health law, regulatory investigations, and administrative justice. Based in Ajax, she is proud to support Grandview Kids in its mission to provide exceptional care and inclusive services to children and youth across Durham Region.
Lindsay Coolidge, Director

Lindsay is the Director, External Relations and Partnerships at Ontario Tech University. She supports the university’s community and corporate relations activities. She started her career at Ontario Tech in the Office of Research Services where she supported the university research mandate. Prior to Ontario Tech, Lindsay had a variety of roles within the provincial government. A long-time resident of Durham Region, Lindsay serves on boards and committees for a number of local organizations. She is thrilled to support Grandview Kids at this exciting time in the organization’s evolution. When asked what inspired her to join the Board, she said, “[To] learn more about the organization I have been supporting as a community member for the last two years, support the organization’s research and innovation mandate and, in the process, give back to my community.
Ashif Damji, Director

Director

Ashif is currently Director, Planning and Resource Management at the Ontario Ministry of Finance. He is an accomplished executive with over 20 years of experience in Director roles within the Ontario Public Service and the broader public sector. His various roles include Deputy Registrar General for Ontario, Director of Business and Fiscal Planning with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, and Director of Strategic Business Services with Tribunals Ontario. Ashif started his career as a nurse and has held progressive executive roles in various Ontario hospitals and regional health entities prior to joining the Ontario Public Service. With a career spanning almost 25 years, Ashif has built a reputation as a solutions-focused executive with extensive leadership experience in corporate services, process improvement and change management. He is known as a collaborative, authentic leader dedicated to creating inclusive work environments. Ashif resides in Whitby with his wife and two daughters. His older daughter has exceptional needs and has been a client of Grandview Kids.

Sarah Klein is the Deputy CAO for the Town of Whitby, where she oversees Inter-Government Relations, Corporate Strategic Planning, and oversees key portfolios including Economic Development, Sustainability and Climate Change, Culture, Tourism, Events, and Downtowns. With over 30 years in municipal government, she has played a central role in Whitby’s transformation, securing major grants, leading the Town’s successful hospital proposal, and advancing initiatives that support vulnerable residents. Sarah holds a Master’s in Public Policy, Administration and Law from York University, an Honours Biochemistry degree from Trent University, and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. When asked why she is excited to serve on the Board, Sarah said, “Grandview’s work changes lives. I’m honoured to contribute my experience and passion to help ensure every child and youth has the opportunity to thrive.”

Denise is a corporate lawyer for one of Canada’s biggest financial institutions. Denise is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. She has experience in treasury, disclosure matters, corporate law, corporate governance, securities law, annual meetings and shareholder relations. Denise has been a Director for various charities that advance the rights of the homeless, women and children. She is a strong advocate for diversity and equity and truly believes that every child is a different flower, which makes this world a beautiful garden. Her message to everyone is the following: when you focus on someone’s disability, you’ll overlook their abilities, beauty and uniqueness.

Annette is the Director of Quality, Risk and Person-Centred Care at Lakeridge Health and a resident of Durham region. Prior to joining Lakeridge Health in 2018, Annette worked at the Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada, where she was instrumental in the development of a patient safety culture bundle for senior leaders and a governance tool about questions healthcare boards should ask about risk. Annette has worked at several multisite hospitals in the GTA, specializing in quality, patient safety, risk management and patient experience. Annette holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Health Services Administration. Annette has completed the Canadian Patient Safety Officer course, is a Certified Health Executive, and has her Green Belt. Annette is a Leading Practices Reviewer for the Health Standards Organization. Annette is proud to join the Board because of an impactful personal experience with her daughter at Grandview and a desire to give back to an organization with values that align with her own.

Kristie is a resident of Ajax and is the Deputy City Clerk for Corporate Information Management Services at the City of Toronto.
She has spent time working in public health, health information management and has been in public service roles focusing on data and information management for over 20 years. She has led several multi-disciplinary teams to success by focusing on data-driven results, strong people leadership and methodical management of risks and issues. Kristie worked at Lakeridge Health for five years, where she grew a robust analytics program that brought together analysts and clinicians to maximize care within funding models. In multiple roles, she worked with her teams to develop digital scorecards and performance reporting. Kristie now works within the City of Toronto’s Clerk’s Office, leading a team that protects privacy, facilitates access to municipal government records, delivers innovative archival services and sustains processes and policies to manage information responsibly.
She is excited to join Grandview Kids in this capacity to give back to the Durham Region community and to reconnect with her community health roots.

Kimberley is a Partner of MNP’s Assurance and Accounting Services group in Oshawa and a lifelong resident of Durham Region. Kimberley earned a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) from Ontario Tech University in 2011.
She is a senior business advisor with more than a decade of experience helping owner-managed corporations in a wide range of industries, including real estate and professional services.
Kimberley works closely with small and medium-sized businesses, providing compliance and advisory services, including corporate financial statement engagements and personal and corporate tax preparation. Her experience with both small and medium-sized businesses allows her to understand the issues her clients are facing and provide proactive solutions.
When asked what inspired her to join the Board, she said, “I believe that there is nothing more important than supporting the youth of our community, and with Grandview’s mission to support every child living life at their full potential, I believe this is a great organization to volunteer my time with.”

Kelly is a Senior Solicitor at the Regional Municipality of Durham and the President of the Ontario Bar Association. When asked what inspired her to join the Board, she said, “Grandview was a beacon of light in my son’s care and I wanted to give back to support this amazing organization in any way I could.”

Trish is a senior public sector administrator with an extensive background in healthcare operations and governance within community and academic hospitals and an established industry leader implementing improvements in governance structures and processes. She is currently the Director of Corporate Affairs, Governance and (Privacy and Policy) Risk Management with Fleming College. Trish is a lifelong learner, with a B.A. in Liberal Studies – Communications (York University), multiple certificates of distinction in Emergency Management for Health Care, Good Governance/Advanced Good Governance, Risk and Enterprise Risk Management (University of Toronto) and Leadership Excellence. An immigrant to Canada as a child in the 1980’s Trish welcomes and enjoys the diversity that our communities offer and strives to learn and grow from everyone around her. She has supplemented her lived experience with Proficiency in French Language and Culture courses and San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training. Trish lives in Pickering Village in Ajax and is an active participant in the local community with her family.
When asked what inspired her to join the Board, she said, “As a resident of Ajax and someone who deeply values the importance of supporting children and families with physical, communication, and developmental needs, I am passionate about contributing my time, skills, and experience to an organization that is making a meaningful impact in my local community… As a parent of a child with a rare disease, I am passionate that high-quality care be provided in local communities – and recognize the immense value that Grandview Kids brings to Durham Region families.”
